Portfolio, Margherita Cavallo
Dieci storie impertinenti dell’immaginario femminile

Margherita Cavallo (b.1944) is a Marche-born artist who relocated to Milan during her childhood and completed her education there. She obtained her degree in Architecture from Politecnico di Milano in 1969 and spent 35 years as a professor of Architectural and Environmental Design in State Art High Schools. Her diverse career includes roles as an illustrator, a curator of didactic and art exhibitions, and an organizer of cultural events within the social sphere until 2015.

Margherita is now a working visual artist. Drawing inspiration from Saul Steinberg, she posits that drawing constitutes the most rigorous and least narcissistic mode of artistic expression. Her artworks function as narratives, wherein existential themes, social issues, and environmental concerns underpin her linguistic exploration, particularly through the mediums of illustration, installation and the artist’s book.

Dieci storie impertinenti dell’immaginario femminile

Dieci storie impertinenti dell’immaginario femminile (Ten Impertinent Tales of the Female Imagination) is a series of prints by Margherita Cavallo that explores the dreamlike world of a childlike woman. The works translate the artist’s free, fluid, and ironic line into a sequence of visual narratives.

The series is presented in a handmade case crafted from Takeo Fine Flute corrugated cardboard, featuring a magnetic closure for a smooth and refined opening experience. Inside are ten prints created using aquatint, hard-ground etching, and drypoint, each hand-watercoloured by the artist.

Completed in 2023, the edition is limited to ten unique portfolios. Each print bears its own individuality through variations in inking and plate embellishment, making every set a singular interpretation of Cavallo’s imaginative tales.
