We offer production-based residencies to visual artists, designers & creatives from all backgrounds and levels of expertise. Our professional studios are equipped for large-scale etching, screenprinting, relief printing, lithography, bookmaking and metalworking.

Our goal is to accompany artists in the discovery process of new languages and technical solutions to add to their expressive toolkit.
Artists have the option to be assisted by experts across various disciplines to produce mixed-media, complex projects. Self-led residencies are available pending studio availability.

Residencies without Accommodations

800 € / week (+ VAT)

Half day (4 hours) assistance by a Gate 44 technician between the hours of 9:30 am - 5.30 pm daily. Residencies without Accommodations

Media Coverage

Our on-site creative team has the capability to produce photo and video content for residents, documenting the artist’s process and final product for use of their choosing. Please inquire about this additional service upon application for the Residency program, and we’ll work together to find the right solution.

Basic print studio materials:

→Flat file cabinet and personal storage space
→Minimum one week & maximum three months duration
→Daily weekday assistance by a printmaker or metalworker
→Courses are available on request
→Rollers, squeegees, frames, spatulas, soaps, rags, etc. are included.
→ Paper, metal, wood, ink, etc, are not included but can be purchased on-site

ART RESIDENCIES

How does the application process and applicant selection work?

To apply please provide a portfolio of recent works, a brief and informal letter of purpose describing how you would like to spend your time in residency and the chosen dates. There is no merit based selection; if everything checks out we will send you a confirmation letter to sign and return along with a 50% non-refundable advance deposit.

How do I pay the deposit?

You can Paypal us at gate44@gate44.eu or send us a money transfer using the information in the footer.

How does accommodation work?

Residents enjoy a private apartment across the courtyard from the print studio. It is a studio apartment with a two stove kitchen, bathroom, desk, couch and bed.

Are companions allowed?

The apartment can sleep up to three people and is occupied by one resident at a time. If your companion wishes to use the print studio, the same rate applies; if they don’t the extra cost is 200 € + vat.

Where is print shop located?

Gate 44 is in Nolo, a fast growing, diverse and creative neighbourhood in Milan. The studio is conveniently served by two subway lines and sits on the banks of a park and river.
How do I reach the print shop?
Via public transport from all of Milan's three airports.

What about materials and tools?

By paying the fee you are granted access to all presses, exposure units, washouts etc. and tools such as rollers, spatulas, cutting etc and basic materials such as soaps, solvents and rags. Plates, paper and ink you should bring from home or you can purchase at our studio.

Can I leave materials and tools at the print studio?

You can leave your prints to dry but have to come collect them within a week. We do not allow artist to leave materials and belongings for liability reasons. If you purchase the five day package you are given a flat file drawer and locker where you can leave your belongings.
