GRATTAPRINT

CANEMORTO is a trio of anonymous Italian artists active since 2007. Masked, elusive, and faithful servants of the canine deity Txakurra, they create chaotic, layered, six-handed works using a variety of media. The deity, conceived by the artists themselves as a narrative cue for their artistic practice, fictitiously guides and influences the development of their street and studio production. Through this particular device, the trio has laid the foundations of a personal and recognizable narrative, not missing the opportunity to directly address some of the most sensitive issues in the always heated debate about street art. For example, the figure of the artist and the coexistence and intermingling of street art and contemporary art are among the themes addressed.

The appeal of CANEMORTO also lies in the strong impact of their production. Close to graffiti, linked to art brut, cartoons, and youth subcultures, and faithful to an outsider approach, the trio’s imagery is characterised by spontaneous, raw, and brutal painting, from which a sense of drift emerges and where the depicted characters represent the ideal contrast to this historical moment.

GRATTAPRINT

The trio held an art residency at Gate 44 in May 2025. For the final event, they transformed themselves into street vendors and sold GRATTAPRINTS — scratch-card artworks — to a diverse crowd of art lovers, fans, passers-by, children, dogs, skeptics and thrill-seekers. Armed with surreal language, cheap gadgets and captivating energy, they invited everyone to literally scratch the surface of the artworks to destroy them and complete the process. Every print was signed and numbered by the artists, from editions to one-offs.
